UNM/PNM Yearly Math Contest- Since 1991, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico and the PNM Foundation have been organizing an annual mathematics contest for all the high school and middle school students in the state. This contest is free, attracts students from all over the state, and provides them with an opportunity to develop their problem solving skills and receive some well-deserved recognition for their efforts.
The contest is typically administered in-person by one of the math teachers at the school. However, this year's contest's first round will be held online, and each student will be able to unlock the exam at a convenient time for them between 31 October, 2020 and 02 November, 2020. The student registration form is at http://mathcontest.unm.edu/ and that registration closes on 28 October, 2020 (next week!). On the day of the contest, they will email them a personalized link to the contest.
We will be holding school pictures On October 22 and October 26. Please refer to the following schedule for your student’s pictures:
Grades 6-7 will be on Monday October 26 from 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM. To schedule a time for your child please click on this link: https://forms.gle/2nyg69M1ovdA8JYM7
We will be allowing 5 students per time slot.
Pictures will be held at 1500 Masthead NE. Enter through the West end of the parking lot and follow the directionals going Eastward. There will be staff directing traffic and students. Parents will not be allowed into the building. Students will be dropped off at the North cafeteria door and will be picked up on the East side of the Cafeteria. We are aiming to have each student in the building no longer than five minutes. To keep students and staff as safe as possible we are requiring all students to wear a mask and follow all directions for social distancing.
Chromebook Tip: How to log on correctly - We’re seeing a number of students incorrectly logged onto their Chromebooks. Commonly, they log on with a gmail account then try to use their Explore Academy account within that session, which causes problems with permissions and Hapara (our monitoring software). Here’s how students should be signing on:
Sign out of your Chromebook (here's a video). You should now be seeing a login screen.
Click "Add Person" in the task bar.
Follow the instructions to complete logon using your Explore Academy credentials. Do not use Gmail!
From here forward, there will be a tile in the Sign In screen with the student’s login. Click this to bypass the entry of the Explore Academy username (password still required)
The National School Lunch Program is being extended into the fall for all public schools. This means that school lunches are free at this time. Check the Howl each week for the link that provides the weekly lunch menu. These menus are posted a week in advance.
Pick up weekly lunch order on Monday’s at the Explore Academy Masthead location.
If you live too far from Explore we are told that APS and RRPS are also offering seamless meals as long as your child is between 1 and 18 years of age. Parents / guardians can contact the school closest to them.
Senior Progress Meetings
Explore Academy will be scheduling Senior Progress meetings with all our Seniors and families this coming week. The meetings should last around 15 minutes. One of the Explore Academy Admin will be reaching out to schedule your meeting time, if they haven’t already. This is required for all Seniors with their families. We will be going over senior credits, dual enrollment, and the Senior Capstone project. We look forward to talking with our Seniors and their families soon.
