Sunday Howl 11.15.20

FOR SUNDAY 11/15/2020

Picture Order Update

If your child participated in one of our first picture days, their proofs will be sent to the school soon. You are no longer able to complete an online “pre-order” and will have to use the code that Lifetouch provides you on the proof sheet for any pictures you would like to order. Proofs will be available for pickup after Thanksgiving Break.

Attention Parents of Seniors

Due to the latest Health Order made by the Governor on Friday, all items (including senior t-shirts and senior picture proofs) will need to be picked up or dropped off (cap & gown orders) after Thanksgiving break. The Jostens online ordering system is also working now if you prefer not to wait to place your graduation order. If you have not yet taken your Senior photos, be sure to sign up for a spot on December 3rd when that form becomes available.

School Lunches

The National School Lunch Program is being extended into the fall for all public schools. This means that school lunches are free at this time. Check the Howl each week for the link that provides the weekly lunch menu. These menus are posted a week in advance.

  1. Place your order by Thursday of each week for the following week using this link: https://forms.gle/Kmxttpk15Dye5edGA

  2. Pick up weekly lunch order on Mondays at the Explore Academy Masthead location.

If you live too far from Explore we are told that APS and RRPS are also offering seamless meals as long as your child is between 1 and 18 years of age. Parents/guardians can contact the school closest to them.

Lunches over Thanksgiving break (November 23 - 27)

In an attempt to provide lunches for the week of November 23, the Lunch order form was opened on Friday, November 13 and will remain open until Wednesday, November 18. If lunches are ordered for the week of November 23, they need to be picked up on Friday, November 20 rather than Monday since Monday is a no-school day. Parents will receive an email to remind them on Friday pick up times.

Mid-Year Parent Orientation / Check In

For both our new and returning parents, we are holding our 2020-2021 Mid-year Parent Orientation / Check in on Wednesday, November 18 at 6:00 PM. This meeting will be a webinar style where we will have various faculty members sharing their video, audio and screen as they provide information to the group. All participants will be able to submit questions through facebook while the meeting is taking place.

During the meeting there will be a moderator that will direct questions from parents / guardians to the speaker(s) or answering them directly. We know this is not ideal, but with the large audience we anticipate and to review all needed information in a timely manner, we feel this is the most efficient mode of delivery. We have generated a google sheet to start questions now. Click here for the link to the form where you can start asking questions.

In the event that you cannot attend, you will be able to view the meeting on the Explore Academy facebook page at any time.

Engage New Mexico

What is ENGAGE New Mexico? For many students, going from a traditional classroom to learning from home can be a real challenge. New Mexico’s Public Education Department has partnered with Graduation Alliance to provide an extra layer of support for students in grades k-12 and their families who might be struggling with these changes. Students who choose to participate in the program will get an academic coach to work with them to answer questions, connect them with resources, and develop a plan to get on track and finish the school year strong.

How does it work? Graduation Alliance is reaching out to students through phone calls, emails, text messages and more to get students started.

What does it cost? There is no cost for the student. ENGAGE New Mexico is completely free to students.

How do I enroll? Explore Academy will be referring students to Engage New Mexico who have low attendance, or who have failed a large number of classes during Terms 1 & 2. Parents who would like to refer their child can go to ParentsNM.GraduationAlliance.com, call 505-340-3250, or email EngageNM@GraduationAlliance.com to get started.
